JSD Announces Start of Negotiations with JESS

JSD & JESS Begin Collective Bargaining Process

The Juneau School District (JSD) and Juneau Education Support Staff (JESS) have agreed to commence negotiations on January 10, 2012. The JESS bargaining unit is the district’s second largest employee association, representing more than 300 of its 780 staff members. JESS is a local affiliate of the Alaska Public Employee Association and American Federation of Teachers.

The current three-year agreement between JSD and JESS expires on June 30, 2012. All efforts to reach a successor agreement will be made in the upcoming months.

The public is welcome to comment on this issue during public testimony at the January 10, 2012 Board of Education meeting. The meeting begins at 6:15 pm in the Juneau-Douglas High School library.
